The Josh
Ginns Memorial In 2007 a young boy called Josh
joined the Derby Wheelblazers Juniors team. The following is a quote taken
from the Josh Ginns Trust
Website, written by his Mum Claire: FIRST MEETING WITH DERBY
WHEELBLAZERS I was always trying to get
Joshua interested in new things and Basketball was one of them. We had
received a letter from Joshua's physio asking if Joshua would be interested
in attending a basketball team that was setting up in Derby. Joshua appeared
keen, I don't think he really new what it entailed but he was enthusiastic.
So we thought we would take a look. As people started to turn up we
soon noticed that everybody was bigger than Josh and older but he wasn’t
fazed by this at all, and he soon made friends especially with Pete the
basketball coach. Joshua wasn’t very good at catching and it was only a
matter of time until the ball hit him on the nose, there was a few tears and
I comforted him. The next minute he was back on court trying his very best to
get the ball. I remember Joshua chasing up and down the court after the ball,
I think he enjoyed wheeling up
and down more than anything showing off his new wheelchair that had got disco
lights in the front wheels. He gave it his all and you could not ask anymore
from him, he was a little star that day that kept going back for more, he
made me very proud to be his mum and I still am. Sadly, after 6 years battling a
rare form of cancer Josh passed away at the age of 10. The
trust was set up in the hope of raising money to support children in Joshs
position and it has been Derby Wheelblazers pleasure to contribute to this,
and keeping Josh’s memory alive |
